The Plan
The Plan: I plan to attain the next step in my advancement to the
Nationwide/PGA Tour through continual tournament experience
during 2011, coupled with a heavy practice and workout regimen.
This will put me in position to improve on 2009’s Q-School showing
(made it to the 2nd Stage, finished 2 shots shy of qualifying for Stage
3). I do not plan to play mini-tours year-after-year, but it is a great
avenue to develop and improve my game. As a result of playing this
regular tournament schedule, I have seen a great improvement in my
mental toughness as well as physical conditioning and been able to
show thus far, I have the necessary tools to sustain a successful
career.
One of the main reasons I will be successful is my commitment to
daily goals centered on strategic and proper planning to make sure I
achieve the most out of every day. As long as I continue to focus on
getting better, each and every day, success becomes a matter of
time. I am also very fortunate to have a staff of people to keep me
focused and at the top of my game, both mentally and physically.
Janine Young with Elite Golf and Fitness has been a great asset in
keeping my body and mind headed in a positive direction, keeping
me injury free, and at the same time help me reach new heights
physically. Mike Boring, also based out of Kansas City, has recently
come on board as my new golf instructor. Mike has a very extensive
background in the game of golf and understands every aspect of the
game better than anyone I’ve ever known. He’s willing and able to
give my golf game the necessary time and attention that one needs
in order to make it to the next level, and for this I’m fortunate.
My 2010 season on the Hooters Regular Pro Series was a rough
one for me, no denying it. I had expectations of myself that were not
met, especially after having a very successful off-season competing
on the Hooters Pro Series. It all started by failing to gain sufficient
funds for my 2010 season, causing me to operate on a tight budget.
I started missing cuts and placed more pressure on myself each
week to try and get back what I had lost. Money got tight and I placed
more pressure on myself and was never able to free myself up and
relax during competition, I was afraid to take time off and miss
chances to make money and didn’t want to spend money to come
back to Kansas City; I was stuck between a rock and a hard place. I
would show a few signs of improvement but never seemed to “get on
a roll.” After seeking much-needed advice, I decided to have a few
months to refresh the mind as well as all aspects of my life and golf
game. I’m going to replace the majority of clubs in my bag with a
focus on clubs that I feel confident with, had a dilemma with a few
clubs this year and were replaced with “quick-fixes.” I will be doing
strength and conditioning with a much greater emphasis, the
stronger and more I am able to sustainability a gain in my golf game
the more success I will have. I have switched to a new instructor that
has proven to me in a brief period of time his commitment to my
success and a strong belief in my abilities. The next step to round
out the off-season: gaining a solid foundation of sponsors. As a
result of a supportive team of backers I would free the mind of dollar
amounts week after week, and focus more on taking care of
business on the golf course.
I’m gaining new connections to gain assistance on where I need to
be. These include ties with Mizuno golf for equipment purposes, as
well as Brookridge/Hawks Ridge Country Club in Overland Park, KS
to help me out with a place to work on my game and pick up any
loose ends that I need help with. I now have a group of friends in the
Kansas City area that are currently searching for assistance to keep
me playing out there on tour.
